Plate Me is the brain child of Wendy McGregor, and Nick Moore who wanted to improve nutrition availability and eliminate some of the restrictions of the current nutrition options. It is New Zealand's first range of nutritionally designed, ready-to-eat, shelf stable meals. The meals have been designed by NZ's leading sports performance nutritionists and are based on scientific research, meaning the meals have substance. Being shelf stable means the meals do not need a fridge or freezer and have an 18 month shelf life. This is through a tried and proven cooking method NOT with added preservatives or additives that you may see elsewhere. At a substantial total of 450 grams per meal you will not finish feeling hungry, and being heated in 3 minutes you won’t have to wait long to eat.
Plate Me requires a particular technology to give their meals their shelf life without adding preservatives and approached The FoodBowl to use their unit for trials right through to early stage commercial production.
“We were pleased to be able to access The FoodBowl for this early stage work, without them we wouldn’t have been able to commercialise our product without spending a large sum of money to set up our own plant.” Explains McGregor.
The FoodBowl also connected them with subject matter experts to assist with the product development which meant they were in experienced hands during the NPD process.
Since its launch, Plate Me has gone from strength to strength, making strong contacts and making inroads into elite NZ sport. However this is only a small part of the market and further, greater opportunities are on the horizon.
“Plate Me have had some great wins in the 6 Short months of operation. Our meals have received great feedback and are being used by many Elite and Corporate Athletes.” Explains McGregor
Plate Me have many other recipes to develop, commercialise and launch and continue to work with the FoodBowl to achieve these goals.
