Blue River Dairy is an innovative Infant Formula producer from Southland New Zealand. Founded in 2004 as an award-winning cheese manufacturer, the decision was made in 2015 to move to infant formula to enable them to seek growth in a more value-added product range.
Building a nutritional business requires strong technical knowledge and key partnerships through a network of trusted suppliers and stakeholders. The open access facility at FoodWaikato has provided the opportunity for Blue River Dairy to develop and manufacture a wide range of premium Infant Formula and other nutritional products for the Chinese market. Production has included proof of concept work, as well as for commercial production and scaling up for larger production runs.
Blue River Dairy has developed infant formula in goat, sheep, and bovine based products. Key to their success has been the ability to innovate and to work on the fully certified but small scale FoodWaikato dryer to make commercial product, allowing development work to be undertaken in a feasible and flexible manner that proves concepts work before full scale production.
