Ārepa – A Nootropic Beverage

The FoodBowl celebrated the graduation of one of its longest tenants recently. Ārepa, the brain child of our former Business Development Manager Angus Brown, has moved production to a third-party contract manufacturer as his nootropic brand continues to grow.

Ārepa spent 5 years developing and manufacturing at The FoodBowl, which saw many milestones for the start-up company; product launches of capsules, powders and freeze-dried berries, along with beverage reformulation to make it healthier and more sustainable without compromising on quality.

Reflecting on the rationale for partnering with The FoodBowl, Angus states that The FoodBowl was the only place that had the manufacturing equipment that was required to launch the product at the commercial scale needed. This enabled the brand to grow organically at the pace the company required. Angus also commented that The FoodBowl team were supportive and helped tackle various processing challenges as they happened.

Apart from graduating from The FoodBowl, 2019 has brought many highlights for Ārepa; supplying the All Blacks for the Rugby World Cup in Japan, successfully obtaining a place on the Sprout Argitech Accelerator and winning the Callaghan Innovation Award for Partnership and Collaboration at Fieldays.  When asked about future plans, Angus is focused on Ārepa ‘becoming the world’s most iconic brain-health and performance brand’. The FoodBowl intends on coming back and utilising The FoodBowl for future new product development work and sees it as an asset to the New Zealand food technology industry.

‘Being able to say it was 'Made at The FoodBowl' was powerful for us, it’s a respected facility in the industry. Having the backing of the staff and capability enabled us to tackle any challenge knowing that we had expertise to fall back on’
